WHAT IS BAPTISM?
Baptism is an outward testimony of an inward truth and that truth is that God has created a new life within you. Baptism is the new believer’s testimony to the public of their belonging to Jesus. (Romans 6:4)
WHY DO WE BAPTIZE?
We baptize because Jesus modeled it himself - Jesus was baptized. Secondly, we baptize because Jesus commanded us to. (Matthew 28:19–20) that is why Baptism is called an "ordinance" because Jesus told us to do it.
WHO SHOULD BE BAPTIZED?
Simply put, everyone who professes Jesus Christ as Lord. No, we don't get hung up on if you are a member, or if you got baptized in your youth or even if you got Christened as a baby. Baptism is between you and the Lord and if you're ready... we're ready. (Galatians 3:27)
WHAT DOES BAPTISM LOOK LIKE AT WALDEN CHURCH?
Our church has a portable tank that the participants go down into. We think the best "picture" of baptism is the symbol of "death to life" and that displays best by going down into the water and coming back out. Does that mean it's the only way? Not at all, we will work with you to accommodate anything that will best illustrate your story. (Mark 1:10)
DOES BAPTISM SAVE YOU?
No. Each person is saved only by God's grace and it is not based on anything that we do (or don't do). Of course a person can be a Christian and never be baptized. Baptism is a pubic testimony, it's a form of worship and so each person must decide if it's something that they want to participate in. (Ephesians 2:8-10)
